# AAdvantage Loyalty Point Rewards: milestones and systemwide upgrades

Executive Platinum status brings no systemwide upgrades on its own. You get them by choosing them as a Loyalty Point Rewards pick: one choice at 175,000 Loyalty Points, which can be 2 SWUs, and two more choices at 250,000, each of which can be 2 SWUs. The milestones stack, so by 250,000 that is up to six.

Reviewed October 7, 2026.

The reward menu is as of October 2026 and American can change it by program year; see the sources below.

## What do Loyalty Point Rewards offer at each milestone?

Loyalty Point Rewards are choices American hands you as you cross Loyalty Point milestones in a program year. Systemwide upgrades are one item on the menu, not an automatic perk of any status tier. The table starts at 175,000, the first milestone with SWUs on offer; the 15,000, 60,000 and 100,000 milestones carry other rewards.

Loyalty Point Rewards menu by milestone

| Loyalty Points | Benefits you hold | You choose | On the menu |
| :--- | :--- | :--- | :--- |
| 175,000 | Platinum Pro | 1 reward | 2 systemwide upgrades, or other rewards such as bonus miles |
| 250,000 | Executive Platinum | 2 rewards | 2 systemwide upgrades per choice, or other rewards such as bonus miles |
| 400,000, 550,000 and 750,000 | Executive Platinum | 2 rewards each | 1 systemwide upgrade per choice, or other rewards |
| 1,000,000 | Executive Platinum | 1 reward | 4 systemwide upgrades, or other rewards |
| 3,000,000 | Executive Platinum | 1 reward | 6 systemwide upgrades, or other rewards |
| 5,000,000 | Executive Platinum | 1 reward | 10 systemwide upgrades, or other rewards |

American's page lists the other rewards and amounts, and they change by program year, so we leave them unpriced here. Only Admirals Club membership is limited to once per membership year; every other reward can be chosen more than once.

**The count turns on what you pick, and the milestones stack.** One choice at 175,000 can be 2 SWUs. Two more choices at 250,000 can be 2 SWUs each, which brings the total through 250,000 to up to six. Taking a different reward with a choice gives up that choice's SWUs.

## How and when do you choose?

You choose in your AAdvantage account after you reach the milestone, and American emails you when you qualify. If you qualify in 2026, you can choose any time between the date you qualify and March 31, 2027. With more than one choice, you can take one now and the other later. Status itself, Executive Platinum included, doesn't hand you certificates. Executive Platinum begins at 200,000 Loyalty Points, so the 175,000 choice arrives before you reach it, and a strong Platinum Pro year can already have SWUs in hand.

The SWU only exists once you pick it, so a reward left unchosen can't be spent, and a selection is final once made. Check your account for pending choices as you cross each milestone. Our [loyalty dashboard](https://2lnr.com/lp/loyalty-dashboard.md) forecasts where your year ends, so you can see which milestone you're on course for.

## When do the SWUs expire?

An SWU is valid through the status membership year that applies to the date you qualified for the reward. American's own example: unlock a reward on March 1, 2025, choose an SWU any time up to March 31, 2026, and it stays valid until March 31, 2027. The sooner you choose, the longer you have to use it. The upgrade has to confirm before it expires, though the trip can happen later.

The full rule set, including Million Miler levels, three-segment use and British Airways flights, sits on the [systemwide upgrades reference](https://2lnr.com/about/aa/systemwide-upgrades.md).

## Spending them once you have them

An SWU confirms only into open upgrade space, so the choice that matters after the menu is where to use it. Start with how to [find open SWU space](https://2lnr.com/guides/swu-search.md), then plan the year with the [Executive Platinum guide](https://2lnr.com/guides/executive-platinum.md). 2LNR shows which flights have upgrade space open, and on Pro an upgrade alert tells you when a flight you want opens up.

## Frequently asked questions about Loyalty Point Rewards

**How many systemwide upgrades can you choose by 250,000 Loyalty Points?**

Up to six. Executive Platinum status brings none by itself; systemwide upgrades are Loyalty Point Rewards choices. At 175,000 Loyalty Points you choose one reward, and 2 systemwide upgrades is one of the options. At 250,000 you choose two more, and each can be 2 systemwide upgrades.

**What are AAdvantage Loyalty Point Rewards?**

They're the rewards you pick as you pass Loyalty Point milestones in an AAdvantage program year, starting at 15,000 Loyalty Points and running to 5,000,000. Systemwide upgrades are on the menu from 175,000, next to bonus miles and the rest.

**When do I choose a Loyalty Point Reward?**

After you reach the milestone, in your AAdvantage account. If you qualify in 2026, you can choose any time between qualifying and March 31, 2027. Nothing is chosen for you, and an SWU only exists once you pick it.

**When do Loyalty Point Reward SWUs expire?**

Each is valid through the status membership year that applies to the date you qualified for the reward. In American's example, a reward unlocked March 1, 2025 and chosen by March 31, 2026 stays valid until March 31, 2027. The sooner you choose, the longer you have.

**Where do I find upgrade space to use an SWU on?**

2LNR shows the flights where upgrade space is open, and on Pro an upgrade alert tells you when more opens. Our SWU search guide walks through the sequence.
