# 2LNR vs FlightConnections: what a route map should tell you

FlightConnections maps direct flights worldwide: if the question is "where can I fly from here, and on which airline", it answers it quickly. The difference is what the map is made of. FlightConnections plots where flights operate, which is schedule data. It doesn't tell you whether a premium seat, an award, or an upgrade is actually open on any of them. 2LNR draws a nonstop route map too, and attaches confirmed upgrade and award space on the routes it checks, by flight and date, with alerts when a date opens. As of August 2026 FlightConnections is free with ads and its Premium tier is $39.99 a year, with a lifetime option alongside it; 2LNR is free to browse and $175 a year for Pro.

## What FlightConnections does well

Route discovery is a real job and FlightConnections does it better than most. No hedging on that.

### Every nonstop from an airport, on one map

Type an airport, see every nonstop destination on one map, filter it by airline, and you have in ten seconds what used to mean opening six airline route maps in six tabs. For round-the-world planning and for "what can I even reach from here" questions, that's the right tool, and it's free to use.

### Connection discovery, including routings you wouldn't think of

Its one-stop view surfaces connecting options through cities you might never have considered, which is genuinely useful when you want a stopover on a single ticket. That's a different capability from a nonstop map, and it's well executed.

### Premium filters that help award planning

Filtering a map by alliance is a good way to narrow a redemption idea before you go looking for space, and filtering by aircraft type helps when the cabin you want only exists on certain airframes. Those filters, along with the fuller timetables and an ad-free map, sit on Premium as of August 2026.

## Where 2LNR differs

A map that stops at "this flight exists" leaves the hard part to you. That's the gap 2LNR fills.

### Availability attached to the network, not just the network

2LNR's nonstop map carries confirmed upgrade inventory on American, Delta and Alaska and award space across more than 20 airlines on the routes it checks, per flight and per date. "This route exists" and "there are two upgrade seats open on the 14th" are different sentences, and only the second one changes what you do next.

The map itself is at [the 2LNR route map](https://2lnr.com/lp/route-map.md), free to browse without an account.

### The network as pages, not only as a map

2LNR publishes the network as ordinary pages you can link to, bookmark and find in search: an airline's whole network on one page, for example [American](https://2lnr.com/routes/airlines/aa.md) or [Delta](https://2lnr.com/routes/airlines/dl.md); every nonstop into a country or metro, such as [the United States](https://2lnr.com/routes/to/united-states.md) or [New York City](https://2lnr.com/routes/to/new-york-city.md); and per-airport and per-route pages underneath. The whole set starts at [the route directory](https://2lnr.com/routes.md).

### It keeps watching after you close the tab

Schedules are a reference you consult. Availability is a moving target, which is why 2LNR is built around standing alerts rather than lookups: on Pro, set alert rules on the routes you fly and get told when a date opens instead of checking a map again next week.

## Who should use which

These two are complements far more than substitutes, and the split is clean.

### Use FlightConnections while the trip is still an idea

Deciding where to go, checking whether a nonstop exists at all, hunting a stopover, or planning a complicated multi-city routing: that's discovery, and a worldwide route map is the right instrument for it.

### Use 2LNR once the route is decided

Once you know the pair of cities, the question changes to which dates have space, in which cabin, and whether your certificate can clear. That needs availability rather than a schedule, and it needs something watching the calendar for you.

Using the discovery tool first and 2LNR second is a perfectly good workflow. If you'd rather start from the network we publish, [the route directory](https://2lnr.com/routes.md) is free and needs no account.

## Frequently asked questions

**What does FlightConnections do?**

FlightConnections is an interactive worldwide route map. You pick an airport, an airline or an alliance and it shows the routes that operate, including one-stop connecting options, with flight schedules and timetables behind them. As of August 2026 the map is free with advertising, and a Premium subscription adds alliance, aircraft and class filters, fuller timetables, a full-screen map and no ads; it is $39.99 a year, with a one-time lifetime license also offered.

**Does FlightConnections show award or upgrade availability?**

No, and that is a category difference rather than a flaw. It maps where flights operate, which comes from schedule data. Whether a given flight has an award seat, a premium cabin seat or upgrade certificate space open on a given date is separate information that a schedule cannot carry. 2LNR attaches that availability to its own nonstop route map, on the routes it checks, per flight and date.

**Is FlightConnections free?**

The map is free to use and supported by advertising as of August 2026. Its Premium subscription is $39.99 a year on its own signup page, and a one-time lifetime license is listed there at $298; a promotion was discounting both when we checked. Premium removes the ads and unlocks the alliance, aircraft and class filters plus the fuller schedule views. Check its own site before subscribing, since pricing and promotions change.

**Is there a free FlightConnections alternative for route maps?**

2LNR's route map and route directory are free to browse without an account, including per-airport, per-route and per-airline pages covering the nonstop network. What sits behind the free tier is the availability layer: the next 14 days are free on every product, upgrade space on American, Delta and Alaska and award seats on more than 20 airlines alike, while the full 331-day horizon and alerts are included with Pro.

**How is 2LNR's route data different?**

2LNR starts from the same kind of operating-schedule truth, filters it to nonstop metal actually flown by the airline shown, and then attaches confirmed upgrade and award space by flight and date on the routes it checks. It is refreshed daily rather than published as a static timetable, and you can set alerts against it instead of re-checking a map.
