Alaska's program is now Atmos Rewards, and it kept the two things that made Mileage Plan worth holding: a genuinely good partner list and a stopover rule on international partner awards. [Get started free](https://2lnr.com/login) [How to check award space](https://2lnr.com/guides/award-availability.md) ## How to book an Alaska award flight 1. **Find a date with space.** Open [2LNR's award matrix](https://2lnr.com/app/awards), pick your route and note the dates that show space. 2. **Search that date on alaskaair.com.** Check the Use points box when you search, and search the one direction you found space for. 3. **Read a missing partner flight as a likely no.** If a partner flight isn't in Alaska's results, Atmos most likely has no award space to sell on it that day. Alaska books most partners online, though not all of them. If 2LNR showed space there, it may have closed since our last check, so try another date. 4. **Check the fee and the routing.** Partner awards carry a booking fee, and eligible international partner awards allow a stopover. [Partner awards](#partners) has the fee and the stopover rule. 5. **Transfer points only after you've seen the seat.** Bilt transfers 1:1, and a transfer can't be undone. The details are under [getting points in](#points-in). **Key insight:** An award chart tells you the starting price if a seat exists. It never tells you whether one does. Every good Atmos redemption starts from a seat you've already seen, not from a number you like. ## What changed, and what didn't Alaska replaced Mileage Plan with Atmos Rewards in 2025, and HawaiianMiles was absorbed into it on October 1, 2025. Balances moved across, the currency is now Atmos Rewards points, and status is earned in status points rather than the old elite-qualifying miles. - **One balance, two airlines.** Alaska and Hawaiian metal now sit in one program, which widened the Pacific network a Mileage Plan balance could reach. - **The partner list survived.** Alaska's oneworld membership plus its non-alliance partners is still the reason to hold these points. - **Upgrades are a separate track.** Awards buy a seat outright; upgrades move an existing ticket. If your mental model is still "Mileage Plan", the names have changed but the shape of the program hasn't: a distance and region based partner structure, generous routing rules, and space that is genuinely scarce on the flights everyone wants. ## How an Atmos award is priced Two different pricing worlds sit behind one search box, and knowing which one you're in explains most surprises. ### Alaska and Hawaiian metal Priced from a distance chart of starting levels that Alaska says aren't offered on every flight or date, so a quiet Tuesday and a holiday Friday on the same route can price differently. Flexible dates are worth real points here, which is exactly what a calendar view is for. ### Partner metal Priced from published partner charts by region, distance and cabin, but those are starting rates: Alaska says the actual price can vary with the city pair, the partner's pricing, demand and the number of segments. The scarce input is space at the lowest published level. Because both charts price by distance, the same 60,000 points can be a mediocre domestic redemption or a long-haul business-class seat. Check the current chart on Alaska's own site before you plan around a number you remember from a blog post. ## Partner awards: the stopover, the fee, the catch Partner redemptions are the reason this program has a following, and three rules shape every good one. All three were current as of September 2026; Alaska publishes the authoritative version. - **The stopover.** Eligible one-way international partner awards allow one enroute stopover of up to 14 days, and a round trip allows two, one per direction. That turns a connection you were making anyway into a second destination. - **The booking fee.** Since July 1, 2026 partner awards carry a nonrefundable booking fee of 20 dollars per person, each way, waived for Summit cardholders. Budget it, and note that it makes very short partner awards worse value than they look. - **Chart prices are the floor.** Partner charts show starting rates, and Alaska says lower tiers have limited availability and some city pairs aren't offered at the lowest published level, so the seat you want may price higher or not be offered at all. The practical consequence: build the trip around a partner flight you can see has saver space, then decide where the stopover goes. Doing it the other way, picking a routing and then hunting for space to fit it, is where most attempted Atmos bookings die. ## Getting points into Atmos Rewards Atmos is a thin transfer target compared with the big three US programs, which is why topping up is a planning step rather than an afterthought. As of September 2026: - **Bilt Rewards** transfers at 1:1. Diners Club Club Rewards also convert to Atmos, and Alaska lists no other card currency. - **Marriott Bonvoy** transfers at 3:1, with a 5,000-point bonus for every 60,000 Bonvoy points moved, which is why 60,000-point increments are the sensible unit. - **American Express** doesn't reach Atmos. The old route through HawaiianMiles closed in June 2025 and wasn't replaced. The rule that matters most here: confirm the seat before you transfer, because transfers are one way and the seat is the scarce half. ## Finding the space before you spend the points Award space isn't a static property of a route: Alaska says availability varies by route, travel period and booking window. Checking once tells you almost nothing. - 2LNR's award matrix covers more than 20 airlines and shows confirmed space by flight and by date, so a month of candidate dates is one screen rather than thirty searches - An alert on a route tells you when space appears instead of asking you to remember to look Nothing here creates a seat, and no tool can make a partner release saver space. What changes is that you see the opening while it is still bookable. Balances carried over, the currency is Atmos Rewards points, and status is now earned in status points.
